Outgoing VP Activities Matt Bate has announced a series of measures designed to protect and preserve society space.
Changes to the teaching day due to be implemented in September raised concerns about the effects on societies, in particular spaces on campus. Matt Bate’s project #SpaceSummit aimed to address this issue of activity space, and concluded with the creation of the following measures:
From September, the Terrace restaurant will be available Monday-Wednesday evenings as an activities space.
The society events booking process will also undergo improvements, becoming simplified for users. This will be carried out by Event Exeter, which manages the event venues on the Exeter campuses, including the Great Hall and Reed Hall.
Additionally, booking for both Guild and University managed rooms is set to become simpler and clearer.
Matt Bate told Exeposé: ”Society space has been one of my highest priorities this year and will continue to be an important issue for the Students’ Guild as the University expands. I’m delighted with the outcomes of the Space Summit that will ensure societies can access the facilities they need in the coming year.”
