The reign of the popular Exeter nightclub and VK-vender, Arena, is set to come to an end.
An announcement was posted this morning on the Arena Facebook page when the nightclub announced that it is closing for refurbishment, and that it will be reopening in September, under a new name. Unfortunately, Arena has yet to release any further details to the public at the time of publication, aside from the fact that Cheesy Tuesday’s would continue.
Arena first opened its doors in 2007, under the ownership of the Luminar Group. Since then, it has become massively popular among students, with Cheesy Tuesday’s become a staple for a significant number of the student population, becoming a particular weekday institution for first years.
Dirty Sexy People proved to be equally popular, as did the annual Halloween Party.
The news follows on from a number of popular Exeter student venues who have either closed or changed hands over the last few years. Cellar Door closed its doors last year, and music venue Mama Stones went the same way earlier this year.
Nevertheless, Arena won’t be going out with a whimper- they will be hosting a Closing Party, which is set to take place on the 8th August. Details can be found on the Arena website.
