On Saturday 19 September, Exeter’s fabled dance retreat, the Cellar Door, is set to reopen with Exeter-based residency House Trap. They’ve previously been responsible for some of Phoenix’s best house and funk nights, and resident DJ Lee H was Magic Hatstand’s August special guest on their fluorescent night of mayhem, Quirk!
Cellar Door had hosted some of the biggest names to forage Exeter’s underground scene
Prior to its closing on 19 July last year, the Cellar Door had hosted some of the biggest names to forage Exeter’s underground scene, including Duke Dumont, Artwork, Bondax, Hannah Wants, Julio Bashmore and many more. The quayside venue was also the infamous home to student nights by Thick as Thieves, EXIT and the ground that helped lift Beats & Bass to their steadfast stronghold as the cultivators of student DJ talent.

While the staples of these nights’ legacies have been defiantly and fondly remembered, and upheld by Our House and Holditdown through Exeter’s longstanding underground venue the Cavern, the return of Cellar Door comes at a very welcome time. At the launch of House Trap @ The Cellar Door, resident DJ muddyfunk will start proceedings with an exclusive two hour set from nine o’clock, to be joined by other House Trap residents until 3am. Full details of the event can be found here.
Despite no official statement having been made by Cellar Door, House Trap have confirmed it to be their home for future events, and we are sure they’ll be joined by an Exeter mass delighted to have this venue back on the menu.
UPDATE: Cellar Door is open for hire until December, when it will be refurbished as a nightclub. The Revelry will be a restaurant owned by the same people. via PearShaped
