O
ver 1,000 students and members of the public attended a candlelit vigil to remember victims of the Paris and Beirut terror attacks yesterday evening.
The event, entitled ‘Vigil for Humanity’ and organised by Lizzie Swyer, took place on the Great Hall piazza. Nearly 2,000 people were believed to have been in attendance.
President of French Society Miriam Muncaster, Palestinian student Malaka Mohammed and several French students offered speeches and poems in both English and French on love and solidarity as part of the ceremony.
Lit candles were also placed on the ground and the crowd joined together for a minute of silence in honour of those affected, as well as a rendition of the French national anthem, ‘La Marseillaise’.
