On November 22nd The University of Exeter Triathlon Club took 15 athletes to the annual BUCS Duathlon meet, which, on a chilly Castle Combe Race Circuit saw 650 competitors complete 2 2 mile runs and a 10 mile cycle.
There were strong performances across the board, with Jack Bristow and newcomer Harry Preston impressing in a highly competitive Elite Men’s field. Equally, a series of solid times in the Male second wave, notably top half finishes by Jamie Pocock, Alex Foyn, Matt Hacke and Ollie Thorogood, demonstrated good strength in depth in Exeter’s male team coming into 2016.
However, in terms of picking up valuable points, the Womens’ team were stand out performers. Whilst Beth Joslin, Alice Carr, Eliza Gilchrist and Kathryn Gardner all raced well, Clare Parkin finished in an excellent 7th place, meaning EUTriC took some precious BUCS Points back to Exeter. Whilst she felt she could have finished even better if not for a dodgy first transition, her overall time and position deserves much praise. As the team go back into training for a busy calendar in 2016, they are hoping to build on the Duathlon performance, and to compete at an even higher level in the coming months.
