THE Queen has offered her congratulations to the University of Exeter after celebrating 60 years of success.
On 21 December 1955, the University received its royal charter from HM The Queen, and since then has grown into an internationally renowned teaching institution.
In her tribute, the Queen said: “I would like to congratulate staff and students, both past and present, on what you have achieved together in the sixty years since the Royal Charter was awarded. Looking forward, I wish the University of Exeter continued success in the way that it challenges, innovates and informs future generations.”
The Royal Charter itself was on display in the Forum earlier this month as part of the Charter Day celebrations.
Sir Steve Smith, University of Exeter Vice-Chancellor, reiterated that the Univesity is a “forever institution.”
“To have received royal recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication and energy of everyone associated with the University of Exeter. The Diamond Jubilee is a celebration of the past, but it is also an opportunity to look to the future.
The tribute is just one of the notable events to commomerate the University’s Diamond Jubilee, culminating in the 2016 summer graduation.
