To usher in the New Year, Pinterest released their predictions for what is going to go viral in the world of food and drink this 2016.
This is the year that we are set to turn our student-sized kitchens into breweries
Pinterest provides excellent procrastination appeal at the best of times, but the fact that this might even come in useful meant I didn’t have to feel bad one bit – and you don’t either. Take a minute to forget about exam, deadline and dissertation stress as you browse some of the top foodie trends for this coming year, hand picked for maximum student appeal (or despair), of course.
LOVE
1. Home Brew EVERYTHING
That’s right. This is the year that we are set to turn our student-sized kitchens into breweries, bottling up our own home brew creations left, right, and centre. There might not be room for that 5kg bag of pasta in the cupboard this term, but this boozy craze might just be worth the sacrifice. Who eats that much pasta anyway?
While we’re on an alcoholic note, if you’re a beer lover you’re in for another treat, as beer is set to be the next ingredient added to cocktails this year.
2. Good Coffee without the Costa Queue

No matter what time I chance Costa, the queue is always out the door. The good news is that Pinterest predicts 2016 to be the year of good coffee at home. Save yourself the walk, and a fair few pennies, by brewing your own coffee at home. I’m not talking instant stuff – either go all-out and grind your own beans or pick up a fresh bag at the supermarket. Drip through a filter or a cafetiere and enjoy a steaming hot cup of coffee at its finest in the comfort of your own bed. This trend is worth getting up 5 minutes earlier for and it’ll definitely make 8.30am lectures more bearable. I’ll toast to that!
HATE
3. Avocado Oil
We’ve mashed it on toast, added it to chocolate mousse, thrown it into green smoothies, and now it’s time to cook with it. This might be the newest healthy cooking oil option to hit the big time – and I do love avocado – but I’ve only just got over how much my jar of Coconut Oil cost me. Let me enjoy it for a little while, please!
