2015 was a massive year in beauty – we were all contouring, strobing and getting just a little bit obsessed with makeup tutorials (hence many beauty YouTubers doubled their subscribers last year). But hold onto your brushes girls, because 2016 is looking to be even bigger and better still.
With gorgeous new releases and innovative new products already hitting the shelves (and it’s only February), we’re already praying for the next student loan instalment.
So if you’ve got a few pennies to spare, or you just like to swoon over new makeup (like me) take a look at our pick of the best new high-end releases…
Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Palette (£39)
If you’re not already familiar with Too Faced, they create high-quality products in the most adorable packaging possible. And if that hasn’t already sold you, they use cocoa powder in many of their products so they smell like, yes you guessed it, CHOCOLATE. This is the third release in their ‘chocolate bar palette’ range, and it’s filled with neutral colours for everyday looks, with a pop of colour so you can get a little bit creative. The palettes are a little pricey but they include 16 shadows (more than the Naked palettes which only have 12) so it’s pretty great value.
Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Blush Palette (£35)
Not only is she a pop queen and our childhood style inspiration, Gwen has now turned her attentions to creating a BOMB collection with Urban Decay. It was difficult to choose just one product in her collection, which comprises a stunning eye-shadow palette (in that renowned Urban Decay formula), a brow box, lipsticks and lip-liners, but this blush palette is just irresistible. Not only would that packaging look amazing on your dressing table (or your floor, let’s be real), you’ll have six extremely wearable blush shades at your disposal so your cheeks will always be beautiful.
MAC Cosmetics Retro Matte Lip Colour (£21)
2015 was all about that liquid lipstick hype (for those who don’t know – liquid lipsticks are highly pigmented matte lip colours in liquid formula that stay on all day). Yet, alas, many of the big brands creating these beauties were based in the USA (e.g. Kat von D, Colorpop) meaning we couldn’t truly embrace the trend on this side of the Atlantic. But now, MAC have released a range of liquid lipsticks, and they are seriously good. Smooth to apply and not too drying, your lips will stay matte and flawless all night long. Our favourite colours include ‘Lady be Good’, a peachy nude, and the shade ‘Feels so Grand’, a retro red.
Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation Stick (£29)
Makeup Forever is a Sephora staple, known for it’s amazing base products. Although previously unavailable to us Brits, it’s now available at Debenhams so we can get in on a bit of the action. Created in an unusual stick formula, this soft foundation glides onto the skin creating a flawless finish. It has a relatively wet formula, so probably best to give it a miss if you have oily skin. It’s also very compact – perfect for touch-ups on the go!
Benefit POREfessional Matte Rescue Mattifying Gel (£21)
If you’re a Benefit fan, you’re going to die for this new release. Part of the POREfessional range, which already contains the famous POREfessional pore-minimizing primer (which is seriously amazing), this new gel creates a matte base for you to apply your foundation. Last year may have been all about dewy skin, but matte is coming back with a vengeance and this looks set to be a cult beauty favourite.
All products available at Debenhams.
