Games studio Ubisoft announced on February 11th via their blog that they plan to “step back and re-examine” the blockbuster video-game franchise Assassin’s Creed. Up until 2016 the series has become an annual fixture in the gaming calendar, releasing new titles and DLC regularly (some would say too regularly).
In lieu of the upcoming movie adaptation starring Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender, the studio has promised to “update game mechanics” and “deliver on the promise” of the series. It has only been a few months since the release of the latest Triple A title Assassins Creed: Syndicate, a game that received praise for both graphics and mechanics.
Many fans felt the series had become a cashgrab; lazily reusing large portions of previous games, and not offering enough new and exciting content to justify the premium price-tags for both the base game and DLC. This news will surely come as a fresh and exciting development to fans inside and outside the industry!
