XTV, the University’s very own student television station, triumphed at this year’s National Student Television Awards (NaSTA), taking home eight trophies, including a ‘Highly Commended Broadcaster’ award in the Best Broadcaster category, which was ultimately won by the University of Bristol’s UBTV. The only university to take home more awards was the University of Leeds’ LSTV, which won ten.
The haul marks the second consecutive year in which XTV has taken home eight awards from NaSTA, a record achievement, and cements XTV’s reputation as one of the most consistently high-achieving stations in the country.
Speaking to Exeposé, outgoing Station Manager Chris Filsell spoke of how he and his co-Manager, Matt Whittle “are ridiculously proud of the hard work that our committee and members have put in across the year.”
“We’ve taken a lot of gambles this year in regards to our content and it is nice to see some of our most ambitious videos and projects recognised at a national level. To have led XTV to its biggest ever success is a feeling that is indescribable and we have every confidence that Jess and Maeve will take the station to even greater heights.”
Meanwhile, newly-elected Station Manager Maeve Diffley spoke of how the awards were “a testament to how hard everyone’s worked this year. Getting highly commended for Best Broadcaster was particularly exciting because that’s an award that each and every member of the society contributed to, so everyone should feel really proud of themselves! On the whole I just couldn’t be happier with this year’s NaSTA’s.”
Alongside Highly Commended Broadcaster, XTV received the following awards:
Best Light Entertainment – XTV vs. Christmas Market
Best News and Current Affairs – XTV’s General Election Night Live 2015: Exeter
Best Music – Poltimore Sessions
