Pancake Day? More like Pancake Yay

Ah, Shrove Tuesday. More commonly known as Pancake Day, this wonderful holiday was originally about eating all the tasty things in the house before Lent starts and we enter a time of repentance and fasting. Nowadays, it’s all about eating pancakes, flipping pancakes and generally basking in the lovely, warm goodness of these fried treats. And that deserves to be celebrated! Truly, I think Pancake Day is not given enough attention as the one day of the year that you can proudly boast that you have eaten nothing but pancakes all day and no-one will question your life choices.

Also, lest we forget, you are able to partake in the true, heart-stopping fun that is flipping a pancake. Will your pancake do a beautiful somersault before landing spectacularly in the pan, or will it flop terrible and make a strange, weirdly shaped mess that cannot be rectified no matter how many times you poke it with a spatula? Only the flip will tell. And hey, if it doesn’t turn out right, there is no bad outcome– the blob you have made will still taste lovely, and you can always just make another pancake to try and hone your flipping skills. It’s a win-win situation.

Another reason why I love Pancake Day is because up until the age of nine, I couldn’t eat ‘real’ pancakes as I had an egg allergy and so it was soy pancakes all the way for me. Obviously, not that soy pancakes aren’t tasty (except for the one year that they came out salty…never again), but it was still a special day when I finally got to see what all the fuss was about. So, I urge everyone to take a stand for little me and eat as many pancakes as you can. You never know who might be missing out.
