Several months after snagging the number one position in the 2017 Better World MBA rankings, the University of Exeter has topped a sustainability leader board: coming first in the Campusboard Sustainability Through Reuse national table.

Campusboard, founded by University of Exeter students in 2014, is an online platform originally created for students to resell used textbooks to one another at discounted rates. Since its inception, it has since expanded to cater to universities across the nation, offering cut-price deals on anything from second-hand sports equipment to kitchen appliances.

“The University of Exeter currently tops the ranking, having cut approximately 7,200kg of CO2e via the programme”

This year, the platform has launched a new programme to save some of the 480,000 textbooks dumped in landfills every year. Sustainability Through Reuse encourages students to purchase second-hand textbooks through Campusboard, rather than buying new copies from bookstores. The website then logs each sale to calculate which university is reducing its carbon footprint the most. The University of Exeter currently tops the ranking, having cut approximately 7,200kg of CO2e via the programme.
