Exeter Maths School Named State Sixth Form College of the Year

Exeter Maths School has been awarded State Sixth Form College of the year by The Times Good School Guide 2019. The school provides education for students coming from Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset, with a focus on nurturing mathematic and scientific creativity.

 

Kerry Burnham, the School’s head teacher, is a University of Exeter graduate. In conversation with The Times, she compared the school to a music academy with a focus on a love for maths.  The school aims to help children prepare for University.

 

The University has designed an extra maths certificate specifically for the school that sits in between A-Level and Undergraduate study.

 

The University of Exeter is one of two main sponsors for the school, the other being Exeter College. The University has designed an extra maths certificate specifically for the school that sits in between A-Level and Undergraduate study. The certificate includes group work, professional pitches and individual projects that are presented at a conference.

 

Staff from the University also conduct mock interviews for students applying to University. The University’s Professor Trevor Bailey was a founding Governor at the school. Exeter Maths School has been rated Excellent in all regards by Ofsted for the environment it creates for furthering education in maths and science.
