Bridie Adams reviews Katy Perry’s latest single

Following the release of her recent singles, ‘Never Really Over’, ‘Small Talk’, and ‘Harleys in Hawaii’, it’s interesting to hear a slower, less upbeat track from Katy Perry in the form of ‘Never Worn White’. The new single focuses on the happiness of Perry’s personal romantic life, and her relationship with fiancé actor Orlando Bloom.

Perry sings about marriage – she feels both excitement and anxieties about tying the knot. These feelings about being engaged and preparing for a wedding are likely to appeal to many of Perry’s fans, many of whom have aged with her music and might be at similar stages of life themselves.

Perry also used the music video to ‘Never Worn White’ to announce her pregnancy. With the bright, feminine colours and flowers in the video bringing vibrant life to the song, this was a lovely way to share her big news with her fanbase.

Despite the strong feeling of happiness and comfort that comes from the single, there are some drawbacks when it comes to the sound of the track itself. Specifically, I’m not a fan of the Wedding March peeking through both at the beginning of the song and at intervals throughout. Although classical music is often blended effectively with pop tracks, this, to me, isn’t particularly successful and doesn’t add a lot to the sound of the single. I also feel that, compared to the poppy, catchy sound of Perry’s other recent releases, this track lacks any substantial flavour.

Overall, ‘Never Worn White’ is a heartwarming celebration of love, marriage, and pregnancy, but fails to match the musical quality of Katy Perry’s other recent singles.
