The Queen’s Head Hotel in Exeter is at risk of losing its licence after the police found “numerous persons” inside the premises.

Police attended the pub in April following intelligence that they were operating despite the restrictions in place. Alcohol Licensing Officer for Devon and Cornwall Police, David Adams-Leach, said that “officers arrived at 8.14pm and observed through the window five people inside with beverages and they believed there were more inside.”

Mr Adams-Leach further added that “the DPS has failed to comply with the business regulations during the coronavirus pandemic. The Licensing objective of public safety has been undermined by allowing people to enter and use the premises.”

Pubs were among the first businesses to be affected by Covid-19 measures and have been closed since March 20.

The Police have applied to Exeter City Council for a premises licence review. The pub’s licence could be revoked, altered or experience no changes and is now in the hands of the licensing sub-committee.
