Police reportedly arrested seven people on ‘manic’ Saturday night of 18 July 2020, with the reopening of the pubs after lockdown being blamed.

Incidents caused by alcohol, including fights, drunk drivers and intoxicated people, led to seven people being taken into Exeter Custody Suite by the morning.

Exeter-based Devon and Cornwall response police officer, PC Amelia Hawkins, tweeted: “A manic night across @DC_Police leaving the Exeter early shift seven prisoners.” PC Hawkins continued to say that the reopening of the pubs shows just how much work alcohol creates for the police.

Incidents caused by alcohol, including fights, drunk drivers and intoxicated people, led to seven people being taken into custody.

A similar situation took place in Plymouth, where the Morley Arms pub had to call the police after people started jumping over walls to enter the premises and abused staff members. The establishment was forced to close early with the help of Plymouth officers.

This increased anti-social behaviour comes as a result of the government allowing pubs to reopen on 4 July with the appropriate measures, following their almost four-month closure.
