The University of Exeter has relocated 1,400 students from halls in response to an unexploded WW2 bomb found near campus.

A registrar email revealed that students from affected halls were taken to alternative accommodation last night, where the University are “working hard to put support in place including food vouchers and deliveries and provision of personal supplies where needed.”

Students from 11 halls were asked to evacuate, including Birks Grange Village, Duryard and Holland Hall.

The University are planning to return displaced students to their accommodation on Sunday, following the controlled detonation of the bomb and a comprehensive safety review.

There is currently a 400m safety cordon in place and around 2,600 households have been told to evacuate as work is carried out for the controlled detonation on the device.

The bomb, estimated to be 2.5m long, was found by builders on Friday working on private land to the west of campus.
