Jeremy Daubeny, a first year Economics and Politics student at the University of Exeter, has been put forward for a Pride of Britain Award.

The nomination came following his ‘Tour de Full English’, in which he cycled around Britain to hunt down the top full English breakfast. As a result, Daubeny raised £37,500 for the Brain Tumour Charity along with the MND Association.

Daubeny lost his dad to a glioblastoma brain tumour in September 2018, and his mum to motor neurone disease in May 2019. The loss of both parents made Daubeny intent on fundraising in their memory, and his lockdown pastime, cycling, inspired his ‘Tour de Full English’. Daubeny says he is “completely shocked and humbled by the extent of generosity during the challenge,” explaining that his initial target was £2,500, which grew into his final total of £37,500.

He says, “The money will do so much good and it was heartwarming seeing people donating for a common cause. The whole trip really demonstrated that there are positives of social media! “The trip was of course about raising awareness and funds for two incredible causes. The fundraising page is closed but both the MND Association and the Brain Tumour Charity are always desperate for funds to get that little bit closer to a cure.

“Both the MND Association and the Brain Tumour Charity are at the forefront of research into two criminally underfunded but unbelievably cruel diseases. They do an amazing job at providing support networks for families. I hope that the added coverage gets that extra bit of support through for both charities!” Another key part of Daubeny’s trip was the breakfasts he enjoyed from one end of the route to the other – so which one did he like most?

“The winner of the Tour de Full English was Caffi Y Ragna. Beautiful surroundings, a respect of tradition and crispy onions in the beans were absolute game changers,” he says. Daubeny has already received a regional award for his efforts, and will be attending the national Pride of Britain Award ceremony later this year.
