The DVD Library: All hail Leo

Sunday 28th February marked a special moment in history that you have probably heard of… That’s right, Leonardo DiCaprio – aka King of the World – won his first Oscar. To celebrate his success, and to pretty much binge on pretty viewing, I have searched and found the best of Leo that the DVD library […]

The DVD Library: Film’s fashionistas

Costumes are regularly celebrated in film for being dramatic, beautiful, feats of engineering, ingenious, artistic. But, there’s one description that is saved for the very best – iconic. From Marilyn’s white dress flying up her bum to Cher’s entire wardrobe in Clueless, costume has proved its strength for fantasy, characterisation, and memorability. Here’s a list of […]

The DVD Library: Feel good for Feb

If you are in the lull of what is commonly known as Term Two, a feel-good movie is exactly what the doctor ordered. Reminding you that all you need is a little motivation, a sing-along soundtrack, and an A-list actor to get through life, these films offer you the energy, happiness, and determination to get […]

The DVD Library: Wanderlust

We are all at that point of the year where it’s too cold, too dull, and we miss our summer tans (or at least the holiday bar’s happy hour). But, do not fear, as the DVD Library is equipped for such times, boasting a wealth of holidays, exotic retreats, city breaks, and simple escapism – […]

The DVD Library: Let’s get festive

It is a rule universally acknowledged that you must watch a Christmas film in December, whether to celebrate the holiday or simply enjoy the festive fun. With that said, here’s a few of the best, so what’s left to do but put your feet up, eat a mince pie, drink some mulled wine and watched […]

The DVD Library: Food, wine, and all things nice!

If your waist doesn’t widen during December, you’re doing something wrong. And, you also have incredible willpower. That’s right, we’re back in that time of year where every shop is decked out with glorious food and alcohol – yay! To get us all in the mood to break our diets, here are a few foodie […]

The DVD Library: Put on the Ritz

It’s getting to that time of year when there’s always a party to go to, another dress or suit to buy, and another bottle to drink. With that in mind, here’s a few films that certainly know how to get you into that glitzy, glamorous mood… complete with Grade 8 dance moves and a couple […]

The DVD Library: Noir for a grey day

This is the perfect time for some film noir (or neo-noir for you modern folks) with the air a little chillier, the mood a little bleaker, and the days and nights a whole lot darker, this is noir’s moment to shine (or shadow – it doesn’t really like light). Ticking off the list of femme […]

The DVD Library: Lovers in crime

There’s no escaping the enduring appeal of lovers on the run, in particularly, lovers on the run from the law. With the glamour, the terror, and the plain devil-may-care attitude of these iconic partnerships, it’s no wonder that these films are so worryingly entertaining. Although there’s one thing for sure, I wouldn’t want to be […]

With this list of the top power groups to have ever graced the big screen, we can all aspire to these ultimate squad goals – whether that’s in fashion, coolness, or just plain friendship. Side note: Yes, these […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
