Teaching Awards set to break records

Over 800 nominations have been received for the Teaching Awards so far this year. This far surpasses the amount received this time last year. Introduced in 2010, the Awards aim to recognise the research and teaching achievements of Exeter’s academic staff. There are 10 awards to be won in total; eight for individual members of […]

Is cannabis a healthy high?

Last week, bored and looking for something to distract us from the tedium of dissertation research, my housemate and I watched a movie. It’s a black and white movie that was made in 1936, famously called: Reefer Madness (formerly known as Tell Your Children). The film has gained notoriety in recent years for its hyperbolic, […]

Review: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Over the past few months, there have been few films I have looked forward to seeing more than Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As trailer after trailer was released, I, along with countless other nerds on the internet picked over details, analysed shots and speculated about everything in these brief snippets – from the back […]

Hollywood: LGBT friendly?

It won’t come as much of a shock to anyone with an interest in film for me to say that the industry, generally speaking has a problem. It’s a problem rooted in archaic values and borne from old fashioned prejudices that, even in 2015, just don’t seem to go away. The problem I’m talking about […]

An interview with Fightstar

It’s been a while since Fightstar have toured as a band. 2010 saw the post hardcore outfit take a four year hiatus, in which time lead singer Charlie Simpson (and others) took time out to concentrate on solo projects. But now they’re back with a new album, Behind the Devil’s Back, and are touring the […]

Review: A special Deliveroo

What do you think of when you think of a takeaway? So often, greasy, cold fast food comes to mind. But, thanks to a new start-up company that’s just come to Exeter, the days of the cheap and cheerful takeaway may be numbered. Move over Just Eat, Deliveroo is in town. It was a hungover morning […]

Hubbox now Deliver-ood

New take-away service ‘Deliveroo’ will provide delivery from restaurants such as Hubbox, Carluccio’s and Urban Burger. Deliveroo will deliver within a 2.4 km radius of the City Centre, catering to most of the Exeter student population. Exeter is now the 24th city in the UK to offer the service, joining the likes of Edinburgh and […]

Finally, a Rowling interview…lol J.K

Josh Mines, Deputy Editor, gossips with J.K Rowling about her inspirations (sort of)…. Exeter isn’t without its share of famous alumni. From the musical genius of Thom Yorke to the trolling talent of Katie Hopkins, few other Unis can boast such an extensive repertoire of celebrity ex-students. However, often one name is mentioned before anyone […]

Festival fashion faux-pas

Josh Mines, Deputy Editor, gives us his run-down of what says ‘dope’ and what screams ‘douchebag’ at festivals…. Festivals can be a great place to show off your edgy choice of clothing, but the line between looking summer chic and fashion failure is remarkably thin. Here are five tips to help you make the right call […]
