Exeter students wed on the same day of their graduation on July 17th 2018. Nicoleta Craucuic and Alex Tirb, both originally from Romania, met whilst studying Medical Imaging 1,600 miles from Romania at Exeter’s Medical School.
Nicoleta recalls that at the beginning it was a challenge to study on the same course. Yet such challenges only proved to strengthen the couple, as Nicoleta said “it definitely shows us that we’re right for each other.” Their relationship has withstood the test of time as they have been together for over three years. Alex proposed to Nicoleta whilst on their first holiday in Edinburgh over a year into their relationship.
The couple decided to honour their adopted city which brought them together by combining two very special milestones; a graduation and a wedding. They got married on the morning of their graduation at Exeter Registration, ditching wedding gear to don their caps and gowns for a graduation at Exeter’s Streatham campus.

After completing their study at Exeter in such close proximity, Nicoleta and Alex will also stay close during their working lives as well, as they have both been offered a job as radiographers at North Devon District Hospital.
The happy couple also plan to have a small ceremony back in Romania in September, however, they are yet to choose an exact location as their home cities, Oltenita and Oradea are 650km apart.
Nicoleta and Alex are among a cohort of students, who have now completed the five year medicine programme. September brings in a fresh load of medical students, so perhaps we can except a wedding-graduation in 2023?
