Okay, I’ll admit it, Watford is hardly going to be your top pick for a holiday destination (or anyone’s for that matter). But hear me out. It might be the edge of civilisation, the last bastion before you venture into the wild, wild north, but it’s actually kind of alright – if you ignore the comatose nightlife. Allow me to enlighten you of it’s numerous spectacular attractions: in 2017, Cassiobury Park was voted one of Britain’s top ten favourite parks (in a Keep Britain Tidy poll, but still); Watford is the birthplace of arguably the best Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell; we have a nice shopping centre, I guess. I could go on (not for long though, to be honest).
Seriously though, we do have a couple of okay things going for us. Okay one – the Harry Potter Studio Tour! If you know anything about me, you’ll know that I’m slightly obsessed with the Harry Potter series, so I may have a slight bias here, but the point stands. And technically the tour is in Leavesden, which is near Watford, but the shuttle bus goes from Watford Junction – so there! It counts, I swear.
So, now that I’ve totally convinced you that Watford is a place worth spending your holidays, go book your room at Premier Inn – or The Grove if you’re rich and want to bump into a footballer. If the worst comes to the worst, you can always hop on the train to London and find something interesting.
