Exeter student unsuspended from NUS election

An Exeter undergraduate, Jack Morewood, whose candidacy in the NUS elections was suspended yesterday following comments that praised the Israeli Prime Minister, has been allowed to continue his campaign.

A spokesperson for the NUS said “following a code of conduct investigation Jack Morewood is no longer suspended and is therefore a candidate in the elections taking place later today (11 April).”

Morewood ended his election speech at the 2019 NUS Conference in Glasgow by congratulating the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, whose government is under investigation by the United Nations Human Rights Council for potential human rights abuses in the Palestinian territories.

The Exeter Students’ Guild has been contacted for comment.

More updates as they come.
