Long Lane, a road near Exeter Airport, has been upgraded and is expected to bring significant economic benefits.

The £4.5 million enhancement of the road is expected to provide a huge boost to East Devon’s economy. Long Lane has been under construction for two years, and its upgrades were completed on 23 February.

The road enhancement unlocks the development of a new ‘Power Park’ – a project that has until now been held up by the previous unsuitability of Long Lane as an access road. The Park will constitute one of the four ‘Enterprise Zones’ planned by the council and is expected to create 1000 new jobs.

The upgrades also improve access to the Airport, as well as to Exeter College’s Future Skills Centre. Easier access to the latter should, according to the council, improve student’s access to highly skilled job opportunities in future.

Councillor Paul Arnott further stated that the scheme’s facilitation of clean growth opportunities should “help the area to meet our 2040 carbon neutral target”.
