In recent weeks, Unidingo, a student-focused app, has gained considerable attention at the University of Exeter. Initially launched at the University of Warwick, the app was designed by a group of students to connect with their peers both within and across campuses. Since its inception, several student societies in Exeter, including the Polish, Greek, and Eastern European societies, have started using the app’s features to enhance community engagement.
Unidingo allows students to connect with others from their university, course, and year group. In addition, it offers a platform for users from all communities, whether academic, sports or casual societies, providing a more integrated approach to networking. One notable feature is its reward system, where active users earn experience points (XP) that can be exchanged for vouchers from well-known brands such as Skechers, The Body Shop, and Samsung.

There’s no need to scroll through multiple group chats or social media pages,” Reid explained.
The rise of Unidingo in Exeter presents an opportunity for students to connect more efficiently, particularly those involved in different societies or communities. However, it raises the question of whether students will be willing to move away from traditional communication tools, such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, which have long been integral to student life. These platforms have certainly been reliable and effective over the years.
As Unidingo continues to grow, it will be interesting to see whether it becomes a dominant force in student communication and engagement, or if it will coexist with established platforms as a supplementary tool for the Exeter student community.
