Great Britain has several medal hopes for the Winter Olympics, and it could possibly be Great Britain’s most successful winter campaign yet. Some of the most exciting medal contenders are ice dancers, Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson who could potentially become the first British figure skaters to medal at the Olympics since Torvill and Dean won bronze at the 1994 Olympics. Fear and Gibson are likely to be contending for the bronze medal, having placed third at the latest European Championship, Grand Prix Final and World Championships.

Another sport which offers medal hopes for Great Britain is in the Men’s skeleton, where Great Britain have previously had great success and have two serious competitors for medals. Matt Weston goes into the Olympics as the reigning world and European champions, as well as being the only skier to have won gold on the new Olympic track having won the World Cup there earlier this year. Teammate Marcus Wyatt has had the most successful period of his career over the last couple years, finishing third in the 25-26 world cup standings, as well as winning silver medals at the last European and world championships.

Britain also boasts the current halfpipe world champion, free style skier Zoe Atkin. This is her second Olympics having finished 9th overall in 2022, while her older sister Isabel Atkin won Great Britain’s first ever skiing medal at the 2018 Olympics. Fellow freestyle skier Kirsty Muir, who was Britain’s youngest Olympian in 2022recently won slopestyle gold and big air silver at the X games, making her a contender for the podium in both events.

There are further medal hopes on the slopes with Britain also having top snowboarders, Charlotte Bankes and Mia Brookes. Bankes competes in the snowboard cross and recently won her first race after returning from a collarbone injury, placing second in the last two world cups standings. Brookes competes in bid air and slopestyle and is the youngest ever world champion in snowboarding after winning in 2023 aged 16.

Finally, there are medal chances in Curling, an event where Britain have had previous success and which was responsible for Britain’s only medals in 2022. There could be curling medals in all three events, with the men’s team coming in as world champions and childhood friends Jennifer Dodds and Bruce Morat teaming up in the mixed event after missing out on Bronze in 2022. With many British athletes in contention for medals, it will be an enthralling Olympics that could make history by becoming Britain’s most successful Winter Games yet.
