The final part of Rivals season 2 is coming upon us, so here is a breakdown of what we can expect from our favourite 80s-nostalgic saucy show.
We all binge watched season 1, but parting season 2 allows a breather for the drama that keeps getting juicier within each episode. Especially when based on 11 books worth of antics, a break is necessary to catch up on the many character dilemmas and their complex plot lines. At the end of part 1, every romantic couple has been left with a cliffhanger, creating anxious anticipation for not only who will end up with who, but the secrets that could be revealed which will catastrophically change the households and dynamics of the entire show.
Will Corinium gain the upper hand next this season after their ruthless tactics of exploitation and sabotage?
The trailer gives hints to things we may never have guessed in season one, such as Cameron and Declan becoming a bit too close, a development we like to see. These workaholics deserve each other, and after such messy relationships, there is a potential enemy to lover’s trope that would turn the tables for sure.
The yearning and slow burn of Taggie and Rupert is one of the fan favourite plot lines. With the recent build-up of Rupert’s maturity and self-accountability, as well as Taggie getting on incredibly well with his kids, a spicy hook up will surely occur in the season’s finale. Despite obstacles such as Basil and Perdita standing in their way, nothing will stop this slow-burn love story.
After his wife’s death, will Tony go past any sort of potential redemption arc? It most certainly seems like it, as he quotes in the trailer, ‘I’ve got nothing left to do but fight.’ We would think that after a traumatic event due to his own actions, his devilish qualities may be reflected and regretted on. But I am convinced that he will be swinging the other way on the pendulum, seeing the disaster as not his fault and being worse than ever before.
With now Maud on his side, I think I can never quite understand how having such a hunk of a man like Declan O’Hara is not enough. Maud is relentless for other men’s attention, with her own husband accepting this and even loving her sometimes for it. Having indulged enough in her eccentric behaviour, she has now crossed the line to no return after her outrageous and quite sudden affair with Venturer’s ultimate enemy, which ultimately led to Lady Monica’s tragic death. Her one-sided monogamous marriage will ideally come to an end after a leak about her and Tony. We see in the trailer a complete look of guilt and dread drawn upon her face, presenting a bubbling volcano inevitably going to erupt.

Although dividing the series creates greater excitement, we question how much will actually be satisfyingly resolved, knowing there is another season to come. Venturer is likely to face severe consequences once Declan discovers about Maud, with potentially furthering this with Freddie and Lizzie’s spouses also uncovering about their affair.
