Snow is falling, all around me, children playing, having fun, it’s the season…of Spotify wrapped. More than any other event of the year, more than any birthday, festival, or holiday – this is the event I look forward to most and is one that I’m delighted to share with you today.
My song of the year will undoubtedly be Tonal Sanctuary’s masterpiece a two minute and twenty-two second track entitled “Comfort of Rain”. It starts off with the sound of raindrops on your window, enjoys a beautiful transition to the sound of raindrops on concrete, and climbs all the way up to its crescendo of the sound of raindrops on leaves. This piece tells a story like no other and criminally underrated in its flow and consistency – forget Mariah Carey this song should be making $3 million a year. I have no doubt I’ll be in the top 1% of listeners, where I have been before and where I shall remain for a long, long time.
Album of the year will most certainly be Geneviève Coté’s debut mixtape, a compilation of her performances across America’s, Britain’s, and Canada’s respective Got Talent shows. The famed noisemaker crafts animal sounds like no other, and her talent is undeniable. A personal favourite of mine are her impressions of the Tenerife blue chaffinch, perfectly encapsulating its high pitch and rhythmic tweeting. This album is Cote holding up a mirror to nature’s melody, refining and enriching it, and delivering it to us on a silver platter.
Other albums and artists featured will undoubtedly include legendary lyricists such as Lil Pump and DJ Khaled (an underground track I can’t get enough off right now is “Gucci Gang”) as well as the unique voices of Tyler the Creator and Celine Dion.
