Exeter Student Volunteers is recruiting students for its flagship Summer Adventures Project, helping to provide respite and support for young carers in Exeter.

Organised and run by student volunteers, this year’s project takes place in early August – and applications for general volunteers are open until 24 February.

“It aims to give young carers a respite break from their responsibilities at home,” this year’s Project Managers Ellie Wood and Hannah Parry explained. “The children take part in activities such as arts and crafts, outdoor games and day trips to local attractions.”

The annual two-week event takes place this year from 31 July – 11 August. The first week sees young carers aged 7-11 take part in daytime activities, while week two is a residential trip for those aged 12-15.

“Being a part of Exeter Student Volunteers’ flagship project is a fun and truly rewarding experience,”  Wood and Parry said. “It will give you great employability skills and over one hundred hours working with children while genuinely making an impact on the lives of young carers.”

“If you are considering working with children in the future then this is definitely the project for you!”

Students interested in applying can email esv-summeradventures@groups.exeterguild.com or visit the project’s Students’ Guild webpage for more information and an application form.

Applications close on 24 February.
