Review: Tell Me Anything @ The Bike Shed Theatre

When he was 15, David Ralfe loved a girl called Kate. Well, to be precise, he “loved her he loved her he loved her” (exclamation mark, exclamation mark, exclamation mark.) Enough to save her from the eating disorder slowing taking over her existence? Well, he was going to darn well try. Tell Me Anything is […]

Live review: Stornoway @ Exeter Phoenix

“W e honestly never dreamed we’d come this far,” Stornoway front man Brian Briggs admits. “Swindon, perhaps… but Exeter? No way.” The whoop this earns almost cancels out the outrage he unleashed earlier, back when he suggested to a tipsy Phoenix crowd that cream teas might have come from Cornwall. Yep: between the regional banter and […]

Censored on campus: Exeposé removed during open day

heT Students’ Guild has said it was “disappointed” that the University removed copies of Exeposé from the Forum on a recent open day without informing the paper’s editors. The issue’s sex-themed content was “inappropriate” for children, the University claims. However, the Guild has told Exeposé it advised against removing the papers. This year’s Exeposé Valentine’s […]

Crystal Balls, Raw Steaks and The Lady Downstairs: a Q&A with Stornoway

B ack in October, Oxford-bred indie folk makers Stornoway hit us with some sad news: they’d soon be parting ways after ten years together. The good bit? Their farewell tour would include Exeter. Ahead of their Phoenix gig tonight, I got to pick keyboard player Jon Ouin’s brains on all of life’s important questions – from easing break-ups […]

Review: Rocky Horror at the Northcott

“Who’s a virgin here?” Frank N. Furter asked us. I grinned at my housemate, who already looked terrified. Even more so when our host gleefully announced: “We’re going to pop some cherries tonight!” Don’t worry: things weren’t about to get X-rated. Well, probably not. See, at the Rocky Horror Picture Show, anyone who’s not seen […]

Plenty of catfish in the sea

“I mean, you can’t make a Tinder profile without connecting it to Facebook,” my housemate reasoned. “So you kinda know people are legit, don’t you?” I agreed, whole-heartedly. Anything to justify that upcoming Tinder date I definitely wouldn’t be telling mum about. After all, this guy was 100% a real person. I’d already scrolled back […]

Hundreds join Exeter protest against Trump’s “Muslim Ban”

Hundreds took to Exeter’s streets last night in an emergency demo against US president Donald Trump’s newly imposed “Anti-Muslim Ban.” The peaceful protest – part of a national demonstration against the ban on citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries entering the States – began in Exeter’s Bedford Square at 6pm. A succession of speakers took to […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
