On Friday 13th July, many Exeter residents plan to hold a rally against US President Donald Trump’s visit to the UK. The rally will take place at 6pm in Bedford Square, and is one of many to take place simultaneously across the country this week.

The organisers, Stand Up To Racism Devon, said: “There is growing local anger about the visit of U.S president Donald Trump to this country.”

“Hundreds will gather in Bedford Square to state strongly their opposition to his policies of racism, sexism and war.”

“Musicians and poets will perform at the rally and speakers from across the city will announce that a man whose personal behaviour and political policies are so damaging and divisive should not be met and validated by Theresa May.”

“All will be welcomed at this event which will also celebrate the values of peace, equality and diversity.”

The Facebook event, titled “Exeter Together Against Trump”, currently has over 200 listed attendees and 400 potential protesters.

Stand Up To Racism Devon said that their group is “committed to the values of peace, co-operation and justice”, and hope that Theresa May will not endorse Trump’s policies and attitudes towards immigration, gender equality, animal rights, and nuclear weapons in particular.
