Elinor Jones recounts meeting Australian singer-songwriter Emily Barker
There are some moments in life you will never forget. For some, it’s their first kiss, wedding day, or the birth of their child. Meeting Emily Barker, BAFTA award-winning singer-songwriter, for my 15th birthday was one of them.
An evening of chatting with her and her band….one of those evenings I will never forget
Being invited ‘backstage’ at Bristol Folk House, seeing a soundcheck, a tour of the tour bus, and a song dedication at the show, amongst an evening of chatting with her and her band, was one of those evenings I will never forget. Not only was it one of the first gigs I felt well enough to go to for years, but also she was so lovely, inspiring and welcoming that I didn’t feel taken pity on. I was fully involved with their evening.
Two years later I was welcoming her to play a house gig at my home and I have since had her artwork tattooed. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.
