Print Music Editor Bridie Adams shares her opinion on Miley Cyrus’s Heart of Glass.

Miley’s cover of ‘Heart of Glass’ has well and truly gone viral. And for such an iconic track, originally by Blondie, it would take something daring, experimental and innovative to live anywhere near up to its OG sound. Somehow, Miley has created something different yet nostalgic, something memorable. I guess you could say that’s a pretty rare feat for a cover, especially as it was performed live at the 2020 virtual HeartRadio festival and only became available on streaming services after a huge amount of hype and demand from fans.

“If there’s anything we need in this disaster of a year, it’s some serious kickass girl power… and a coronavirus vaccine.”

Miley is a rock ‘n’ roll diva in ‘Heart of Glass’. She sounds raspy and sassy. As SWMRS sing in their track ‘Miley’, “Miley is a punk rock queen”. She’s always doing something new, forever making music history. None of us know what Miley’s going to come out with next – whether she’s swinging naked on a wrecking ball, twerking at the VMAs, or busting out an incredible 80s cover in an amazing outfit (have you seen that iHeartRadio festival look, though?!) Miley is one of the only pop stars who still has that kind of life in her. They don’t make pop stars like Miley very often anymore, but they definitely should. If there’s anything we need in this disaster of a year, it’s some serious kickass girl power… and a coronavirus vaccine.
