As Christmas season is upon us, the talk of Exeter is of Christmas dinners and Winter Balls. Everyone loves an excuse to wear a nice dress or a smart suit to match the ‘black tie’ theme, but how do you choose a good outfit? Where can you find things that are affordable? What jewellery should you wear? If these questions are plaguing you, you’ve come to the right place.

Top off your outfit to stand out through some bling!

Some may have brought their dresses, jumpsuits, shirts or suits from home, but what if you didn’t, and you have a week to find a suitable outfit? Charity shops are a great place to start as they often have a treasure trove of good finds. They have the added benefit of being sustainable and supporting the community. Oxfam, Marie Curie and the British Heart Foundation are three great charity shops within easy access of campus.

Use the UNiDAYS app for student discounts.

If you can’t find what you want there, the next place I’d go to is Exeter High Street. There are multiple shops such as Urban Outfitters, Zara, H&M and more, where you may be able to find the outfit of your dreams. You can get student discounts in most of these shops using the UNiDAYS app. And if the cold and rain is putting you off trudging into town, websites may be your best bet. Some of my favourites are Motel Rocks, Princess Polly, Windsor, Cider and Club L London. Again, UNiDAYS can save you money on these websites! For guys, you could try Next or Moss, and experiment with clip on bow ties or self-ties.

As someone who loves jewellery, the way to top off your outfit to stand out is through some bling. Cute Things Commin’ is my go-to place, as well as Accessorize and Vinted. Coloured jewellery to match your outfit is always a shout – colour coordination is key! And finally, my last piece of advice for outfit inspiration is to have a look on Pinterest for ideas.

Happy Winter Ball-ing, and good luck with finding your outfit!
