With its diverse wildlife and breathtaking sea views, Exmouth is a charming coastal town that has something to offer everyone.

Devon has no shortage of pretty beaches and quaint small towns, especially in the wider Exeter area, but Exmouth is by far the best. The long, narrow beach makes a beautiful stroll in winter and a great place to sunbathe in summer (or swim if you’re brave enough!)

Exmouth is just a 30-minute train journey from St James Park station, and an open return costs only £4.25 with a railcard, so the trip is well worthwhile.

A walk down to the beach takes you past Manor Gardens, a well-maintained public park featuring pretty flowerbeds and gazebos to sit and rest in. The park was previously part of an old manor house, and a bandstand was used for a range of vibrant musical performances until 1993. The garden benefits from Exmouth’s milder climate and is home to plants from as far as Mexico.

The town of Exmouth is a great place to go charity shopping for some affordable but stylish clothes, and there are plenty of coffee shops and places to eat. Cabin Coffee House has a cosy, plant-covered interior, Bumble and Bee is conveniently located by Manor Gardens, and High Tide sells coffee and artwork. Most cafés are also more affordable than the coffee shops within Exeter itself.

Exmouth’s main highlight is undoubtedly its beach, with a promenade running along the coast, making it perfect for a scenic walk.

For those interested in sports, the Exe Estuary Trail offers a great scenic cycling route. Exmouth is the point where the River Exe meets the English Channel, making it a great place for watersports. Windsurfing, sailing and kayaking are all on offer, as well as paddleboarding on calmer days. A trip to Exmouth could be great for trying one of these sports for the first time.

The main attraction at Exmouth is obviously the beach itself. A promenade stretches along most of the beach, providing a great coastal walk. Pretty views of Dawlish Warren can be seen across the bay on a clear day, including the fairground. On a sunny day in third term, it’s a great day to bring a towel and a book and look out at the sea. You could even bring a group of friends and have a beach barbeque for an end of exams summer celebration.

Overall, Exmouth is a beautiful coastal town which offers something for everyone, including a wide range of wildlife and beautiful sea views.
