If you’ve been around the internet as of late, chances are that you’ve seen KSI’s new single, ‘Thick Of It’ be relentlessly memed across TikTok and Instagram.

But is it really as bad as everyone is making it out to seem? The short answer is yes and ‘Thick Of It’ leaves very little to be marvelled at, except the memes.

Let’s start off with the obvious. “From the screen to the ring to the pen to the king” is horrible writing. You’d think someone from secondary school wrote it. It’s cheesy, cringey and the line delivery is no better. It’s also clear to see that KSI is borderline incapable of writing anything past what he has been up to on social media, and how successful he is.

Trippie Redd also has a very mediocre, and if anything, borderline invisible part in the song. Granted, the music video is a bit more redeemable, and so is the production, even if it does sound straight out of 2016.

It’s obvious to see why the internet has so ferociously attacked the song. It is out of touch and cringey, but is that really all there is?

His recent negative spotlight caused by the recent controversy regarding ‘Lunchly’ and his (one sided) row with Minecraft Youtuber DanTDM cast the song into almost certain doom. It was turned into prime material for mocking KSI further.

Let’s not get it twisted, the song is still not very good, and it comes as a wider trend of YouTubers venturing into the music industry. It’s become a saturated field, and YouTubers haven’t translated particularly well into it.

Some good examples like ‘Joji’, and ‘Troye Sivan’ exist, but for every success story, there are countless others who fall flat, and KSI seems to be leaning toward the latter.
