A celebration of Puerto Rican culture and history, Bad Bunny’s new album Debí Tirar Más Fotos (I Should Have Taken More Photos) features incredible vocals and beats that you find yourself wanting to be dancing to in a Latin nightclub. Bad Bunny (real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio), simultaneously creates songs that are perfect for Reggaeton night at TP while also bringing attention to the life of an immigrant.

It features incredible vocals and beats that you find yourself wanting to be dancing to in a Latin nightclub.

The song on the album under the same name talks about Bad Bunny’s wishes to have taken more photos when he was with his family and given them more kisses and hugs. The album cover even features two white garden chairs, adjacent to each other in front of trees. Anyone with Latin roots can resonate with the feeling of spending warm days chatting with their families on these chairs so, paired with the heartbreaking message of the lyrics, feels like an ode to Bad Bunny’s roots. The image of them empty, however, serves as a reminder of the empty feelings we get when we aren’t around our friends or family. What was once full of life and love, is now gone.

Other songs from the album have less of a profound meaning and instead represent the importance of partying and celebration such as ‘Nuevayol’, ‘Café con Ron’ and ‘La Mudanza’ (my personal favourites). Not only has Bad Bunny dropped visuals for these tracks but he also gifted fans with a short film that depicts the consequences of gentrification in Puerto Rico.

On the album, Bad Bunny said: “I’ve been dreaming about this album for years, and seeing it come life has brought me immense happiness.” He went on to say that this album has also helped him discover himself while he has taught his fans more about him.

This album deviates from his typical hip-hop sound and proves that like any good artist, he can reinvent himself, experimenting with varying sonics and tempos. Bas Bunny blends the classic genres of Puerto Rico, including plena, música jíbara and salsa with modern house and reggaeton to bring conventional genres into new light. Most importantly, Bad Bunny utlilises his platform to make social and political statements for example by addressing socioeconomic issues in Puerto Rico. As one of the most influential artists in the world, Debí Tirar Más Fotos serves as a love letter to his country, a beautiful way of paying homage to the place that raised him as well as raising awareness for the need to protect it.
