On Saturday 7th July, the World Naked Bike Ride returned to the streets of Exeter.

The annual event, which has been running in the city since 2011, set off at 1pm in the afternoon, and took a route right through the centre of the city, passing through the High Street, St David’s Hill, Exeter Quay and Iron Bridge.

Although many have been cycling nude at the event since its founding, participants were invited via the Facebook event page to “come along attired to whatever degree you like”.

By its participants stripping off, the event aims to highlight the vulnerability of cyclists on the road. It also seeks to oppose oil dependency, and highlight the need for more sustainable modes of transport.

Some questioned whether the bike ride would return to the streets of Exeter in 2018 after Canterbury’s naked bike ride was cancelled in April. Organisers confirmed the Exeter event would go ahead later that same month.
