Exeter pub, The Stoke Arms, have put up their Christmas lights early this year as a way of boosting positivity during lockdown.

The Stoke Arms, on Prince Charles Road, are known for their massive annual outdoor display. In previous years it has gone up at the end of November; last year they were announced on the 22 November with the Facebook caption: ‘Have You Driven Past Us At Night Yet?! If You Haven’t, You Are Missing Out!!’.

This year, landlady Ann Spence decided to put them up on the 7 November. Her announcement included videos of the front of the pub and the caption: ‘We have started the lights!! I know it’s early but it cheers a few of us up!!’

This preemptive decoration is down to her desire to spread Christmas cheer a little earlier this year and provide some festive joy during this difficult period.

The pub has continued with takeaway and delivery roast dinners throughout lockdown. They are planning to provide full Christmas lunch deliveries as they will be serving on Christmas Day.
