BREAKING: Stabbing reported in Exeter as helicopter hovers over city

by Jessica Stanier

A major police incident took place in Exeter on Sunday night. Devon and Cornwall police have taken a suspect into custody and the victim is in hospital, with reports of a domestic assault. Harry Tangye, Armed Response Sergeant, described it as “one hell of a night”.

Excellent work by @NPAS_Exeter @PD_Axel Response and my ARV’s. We just arrested one very dangerous man. Now in custody. Exeter log 751 pic.twitter.com/x54A2ihHbB

Contrary to rumours on social media, the police have stated that this is not a prison break. Helen Payne, student, comments after following updates on Twitter: “Rumours and speculation spread so quickly on social media that it makes it scary to know if we’re safe or not.”

The National Police Air Service have tweeted several images indicating a helicopter pursuit was underway.

Cordoned off areas were reported around Howell Road and Leighton Terrace. Pedestrians were prevented from walking into the Exe valley “because it was swarming with police and there was an ‘unsavoury’ character who was probably hiding out down there”, one student said.
