The Students’ Guild has denied that vandalism of a photo of AU President Cameron Taylor was racially motivated.

Students spotted the ripped photo, pictured above, on Monday morning. The image has been ripped, with Taylor’s head and half of his body removed.

The Students’ Guild has confirmed that the incident happened on the evening of Saturday 12 October, and that the perpetrator was “an intoxicated student from another University”.

“The incident occurred after the student and his friends were refused entry to the Ram. The student has been identified and the issue is being addressed through the Students’ Union of the University the student attends. There is currently no evidence to suggest the incident was racially motivated.”

Photos of each of the six sabbatical officers have been displayed in the corridor linking the Forum to the Students’ Guild since the start of this academic year. Due to past instances of racism at the University, students were quick to consider whether this act of vandalism was rooted in similar prejudice.
