Yudy Wu reviews Anna Wise’s latest collaboration with Denzel Curry

Anna Wise first grabbed my attention with her song ‘BitchSlut’, along with the album the Feminine: Act I. You can see how she’s putting her worldview into her songs by being a feminist while delivering mellow tunes. Her songs have always sounded as though written upon waking up with a lucid dream – walking on the boundary of the dream and reality.

She has been quite experimental; however, her recent collab with Little Simz and Denzel Curry is definitely suggesting that she’s trying to take her work to a broader audience. Luckily, it didn’t lose flavour because of this – sure there’s some blues scale that appeals to public’s ear, but the way she constructs the whole song is still the classic Anna Wise. The structure is fun, she’s put a lot of work into its production, and there are improved details in the end. With the other three songs that are also focusing on details and production, As If It Were Forever will be another great one.
