The parliamentary candidates for Exeter for this general election have had an unexpected addition- and no, she’s not behind you!

Exeter Corn Exchange’s resident Dame, Dame Belladone, has become the first Pantomime Dame to stand in an election. Daniel Page, the actor playing the Dame, has said that the main aim of the campaign is to ensure that residents vote, regardless of which of the 6 local candidates they vote for.

Page told Radio Exe he secretly hopes no one will actually vote for him, except as a protest vote, instead describing the stunt as a bit of fun to help promote this year’s Christmas pantomime, Snow White.

Page has strong ties with Exeter, and has previously advocated for Exeter to have a theatre of a similar calibre to the Theatre Royale in Plymouth, whose 1300-seat capacity is far larger than those of the Northcott or Corn Exchange.
