Holly Van Ryssen discusses Exeter City Community Trust’s decision to run Exeter’s Half Marathon virtually this year.

A firm favorite in runners’ calendars, this year the Exeter Half Marathon will be going virtual.

Due to the ongoing uncertainty around large events, and with England in its third lockdown, the Exeter City Community Trust has decided to run a virtual event for 2021.

Traditionally, the event sees runners come together to complete a popular route along the River Exe and Exeter Canal. However, this year runners will be able to complete the event on any route they choose, allowing people across the whole county to participate.

The event will take place over the weekend of 12 February to 14 February, and all participants will be able to submit their running times.

Upon finishing the event, runners will receive a place on the timings board, a bespoke ‘Virtual 2021’ finishers t-shirt, and their own unique race number.

More information about the event can be found here.
