Halloween is a great time to explore some new (scarier) music! (Toby Ord via Wikimedia Commons)

As Halloween draws closer, and the nights get darker, it is essential that you make the most of the spooky season.

I have several suggestions for you, depending on taste and what you want for your playlist. These are just my favourites, I am sure you’ll find your own!

Let’s start with movie soundtracks and songs. These should also hopefully provide some movie inspiration!

My favourite would be ‘Ghostbusters’ by Ray Parker Jr, and the film does mostly hold up all these years later (minus perhaps the CGI and some political issues). The song perfectly encapsulates that creepy, spooky feeling whilst being upbeat and positive. A classic.

Other movie suggestions would be ‘Magic Dance’ by David Bowie from Labyrinth (a sort of Halloweeny film) and ‘Scary monsters’, another Bowie song.

Branching into series, Anna Spencer, Print Lifestyle Editor, recommends ‘Terrible Thing’ by AG, from the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, along with something a little more mellow and eerie, appropriately named, ‘Halloween’, by Phoebe Bridgers.

If you want something very niche, ‘Never Land – A Fragment’, by Sisters of Mercy has to be on your list.

And for something a little old fashioned, top off your playlist with ‘The Phantom of the Opera’.

Finally, my personal favourites would be ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson and ‘Somebody’s Watching Me’ by Rockwell, which also features Jackson. In fact, any Jackson is good for Halloween!
