Movember has shown the positive change and power a community can have, with Exeter University raising over £75,000. There are so many ways to raise awareness and money but within student life – time and resources are limited. Here are four quick and easy ideas to inspire and kickstart your campaign. What have you got to lose?

Go Online…

If you’ve been lucky (or unlucky) enough to have secured a marathon or half-marathon charity spot, online campaigns are a great way to support donations over a longer period of time. Create an online page to support your campaign through websites such as GoFundMe or JustGiving. Here, you can provide some personal context such as your motivations, training progress and target goals. It’s a great way to share your personal experiences and get involved with a charity that means a lot to you!

Fundraising events can be small and still make a big difference!

Give it up!

This could be anything from alcohol, TikTok or even some of your Christmas gifts in return for donations towards your chosen charity. Some might even brave a vow of silence – which might help with  deadline season coming up! Recording your journey on social media is a fun way to track progress and reach an even bigger audience. Fundraising events can be small life changes, which can still make a big difference (just make sure you’re making the right swaps for the right reasons)!

Host an event?

This is the best way to involve a community. Events could include organised walks, raffles, bingo, pub quizzes or perhaps a more formal dinner party in time for Christmas? There might be more planning and effort involved but it will undoubtedly be rewarding for everyone. It is also a great way to meet new people and explore places within and beyond Exeter.

Get creative…

Take the time to create and sell your own DIY decorations and baked goods. Or, dive into your wardrobe to find the clothes that you never wear…we all have them. Why not sell them on Vinted or organise a Clothes Swap for charity? These are interactive and inclusive ways to make a difference both to charity and your own wellbeing!

Whether you choose to try one of the above ideas or find your own way, fundraising is an amazing way to make a difference. In a world that can often feel divided, it’s important to try and create positive change. The next step is yours to take!
