The Great British Bake Off has always been a comfort show for me. What could be more relaxing that watching contestants struggle to make complicated bakes? Each year Bake Off starts around the time university does, so for the last three years, the show has been a way to unwind each week. Series 15 has just wrapped up, crowning a new Bake Off champion. This year was truly something to write home about, or in this case, write to Exeposé about.
The season started off to a rocky start, in the first episode contestant Jeff withdrew due to illness and then left the show the week after. There also seemed to be a few incidents of falling off of chairs. However, after the first episode, the show seemed to settle into the usual routine. The contestants baked everything from pastries to parkin, some to perfection… others not so much.
The bakes are always original and I find myself learning about new dishes every season.
Like every previous season of the show, this one did not disappoint. This season of Bake Off gave me everything I was looking for. It was entertaining and engaging but also gave a calm and chilled watching experience, perfect for when you’ve had a long day studying.
The best part about Bake off is how fresh and new it can feel despite having been on air for 15 years. In all my years of watching I have never felt like each year is just a repetition of the one before and this series is no exception. The bakes are always original and I find myself learning about new dishes every season.
Like most shows, there was definitely a fan favourite. Twenty-year-old Dylan seemed to impress viewers the most – and steal their hearts. Even Specsavers posted a ‘thirst-trap’ of him on their TikTok account. While he made it to the final, many thinking he’d take the prize home, his last few bakes on the show were filled with mistakes. Instead, contestant Georgie, who was defined by her love of home baking, took home the Bake Off title.
Like every year, Bake Off was a delight to watch each week. It is the perfect relaxing show to get you through the cold weeks at university. I’m already counting down the days until next year.
