When the Christmas market goes up and those winter jackets come out, keeping warm should not be the only thing on your radar this winter. The cold weather brings an onslaught of problems with it, but should you really have to sacrifice that sun-kissed glow you spent all summer working on? Looking after your skin is always important, but the less-than-ideal conditions during the colder months means taking the time to adapt your routine becomes more important.

A must for the colder season: some good old-fashioned Vaseline

The biggest issue many people face with the arrival of winter, especially those already prone to dry skin, is trying to prevent your skin from drying up completely. When the cold and wind are attempting to rid your face from any moisture it’s ever known, adding in a hydrating toner is a great way to add another layer to your moisturising steps. The BYOMA Milky Cleanser is a great affordable option, with the BYOMA range found in Boots (which has student discounts on their great Advantage Card system) and Space NK. BYOMA products are especially good for tailoring your routine to your skin type, as their products are clearly labelled with the skin types that they work best with.

Another absolute must for the colder season: some good old-fashioned Vaseline. The most versatile and simple product, it can be used for moisturising your skin or lips, used to protect your nose from getting too sore when you have a cold and is even said to preserve the scent of perfume. The petroleum helps with water retention to prevent your skin from becoming too dry. For dry and chapped lips, a tinted Vaseline can be hydrating as well as giving your lips a subtle hint of colour.

Use tanning drops cautiously until you have a feel for the product

Tanning drops are a great way to keep up the glow from summertime, which can be applied diluted with a moisturiser. The Drunk Elephant B-Goldi Drops are a popular option, with Tan-Luxe or Isle of Paradise both having good alternatives. However, I would advise using tanning drops cautiously until you have a feel for the product.

You should also make sure to keep up with the SPF despite the dark and gloomy weather — those UV rays are there all year round! Overall, with the right care and a little extra effort, you can keep your skin radiant no matter how cold it gets.
