Under the glow of moonlight, Exeter Cathedral was a breathtaking backdrop for the return of the Exeter Charity Fashion Show. Now in its second year, this iconic event – entirely created, organised and modelled by University of Exeter students – showcased the talent and creativity of local, sustainable and independent fashion.
This year’s chosen charity was Student Minds, the UK’s leading student mental health and wellbeing charity. Through ticket sales, raffles, and creative fundraising efforts, the XCFS team are close to hitting their goal of £25,000 (£15,000 more than last year) showing the power of fashion as a force for unity, creativity and positive change.
Don’t be shy about embracing the dress code – dress to impress!
The theme, “Odyssey” brought Greek mythology to life through 10 unique walks: Helios, Medusa, Aphrodite, Iris, Ithaca, Indigo, Poseidon, Gaia, Labyrinth and Underworld. The seamless fusion of storytelling and style made the experience immersive and interesting for the whole two hour show! Redemption’s engaging DJ set was the perfect empowering soundtrack, elevating the energy of both the models and over 1,000 attendees. Unexpected surprises – such as the halftime performance by the Exeter Dance Society and an Oddballs feature – added even more to an already unforgettable night.
Prepare to cheer on some familiar faces…
If you’re thinking of attending next year, here’s some advice – bring a coat! The cathedral, while breathtaking, isn’t the warmest venue. Comfortable shoes are also a good idea, you’ll be on your feet for most of the night, so only wear heels if you’re brave. And don’t be shy about embracing the dress code – “dress to impress” means you should go full out (even if that means cat walking down Sidwell Street). Everyone looked gorgeous and it’s the perfect excuse to feel amazing and take lots of photos. Most of all, prepare to have a fun evening filled with energy, excitement and the chance to cheer on some familiar faces!
The team’s dedication and passion not only creates a memorable evening but also leaves a meaningful impact on the local community. As this event continues to grow, it will undoubtedly inspire even more students to channel their creativity for a great cause. I look forward to seeing how it flourishes in years to come.
