Autumn is the perfect season for hot drinks, fluffy blankets and cosy films. There are so many great films that can get you feeling autumnal – Little Women, When Harry Met Sally and Fantastic Mr. Fox are all very popular choices! However, I’m here to convince you to put on my personal favourite – Dead Poets Society.

I believe there are only two groups of people in this world – those who have seen Dead Poets Society and loved it, and those who haven’t seen it. If you’re in the latter group, take this as your sign to switch it on during your next night in.

If my word alone isn’t convincing enough, let me lay out everything about this film that makes it worth watching. For starters, and maybe most importantly, this film screams autumn! The film follows the first term of the school year and perfectly captures the movement from autumn to winter. If that wasn’t enough, the film centres around students and their academic studies. If nothing else, it’ll give you motivation to start doing some of that uni work.

The actual plot of the film tells the story of an English teacher who tries to inspire his students through (you’ve guessed it) poetry! The film will make you feel every emotion you can name, and ends in an almost bittersweet way. If you’re watching this for the first time, I’d suggest you bring some tissues.

The film stars the legendary Robin Williams, who really steals the show. While you may know him for his more comedic roles, he delivers an inspiring and emotional performance during the entire runtime. The cast also features familiar faces, such as Robert Sean Leonard and Ethan Hawke.

Overall, I can’t recommend this film enough to anyone who wants to really get into the autumnal mood. It has all the elements that make it perfect to add to your seasonal watchlist!
